How to mix your glass paint
This is the true story of how my first teacher showed me how to mix my paint.
I did what she said.
I wasted a year.
This is what she said:
“Take glass like this for the palette:”
That’s bad advice wrong - you need a bigger, stronger palette.
“Measure out a small amount of glass paint:”
In fact it’s often a false economy to work with a small quantity of paint like that.
“Sprinkle it with gum Arabic:”
Actually, you’ll find that liquid gum Arabic is far easier to work with than the powder.
“Add water:”
Yes, you do add water – at least this advice is sensible.
“Mix well:”
The problem is, this paint will dry so quickly, you’re wasting time and money.
“Load your brush:”
But a brush like this is far too long for most kinds of tracing. It’s also too long for a beginner.
And with paint like that, here’s what will very likely happen:
A mess.
There is a better way however.
